Meet The Governors

The school is governed by a Board of Governors comprised of representatives of the Local Authority, the county district and community councils, teaching staff, non teaching staff, parents and co-opted members of the local community. The governors have a responsibility for the effective management of the school within the framework set by Government legislation and the policies of the LA.

Mr. John Worrall

Local  Authority Governor

My name is John Worrall and I was appointed as School Governor by the Local Authority 18 months ago.  Llangan School gave both of my children a first class start in their education and it is now doing the same for two of my grandchildren.

I have owned and operated building and development companies over my 40 plus year career in the construction and property industries.

With semi-retirement, I enjoy the involvement of heading up Major Projects for Cardiff Council on a part time basis together with other Non-Executive roles within South Wales.  I now have the time to utilise my skills in contributing to the success of this school.

Mrs. Kate Tinsley

Local Authority Governor

I was appointed to Llangan Primary School Governing Body in March 2019.  My children attend Llansannor CIW Primary School.  I am a Data Analyst for RM and have been working with education data for 14 years.  Earlier in my career I worked for FFT, Motorola and Corus (British/Tata Steel).  I love all things STEM and am hopeful that the new Curriculum for Wales will equip our young people to fill employers’ skills gaps when they enter the world of work.  I am pleased to support this caring, high-performing school.

Mr. Owen Jones

Parent Governor

Hi, my name is Owen, although some may know me as ‘OJ’. I have 2 children attending the school, in year 2 and 4. I work as a dentist serving the local community, moving to the area in 2016. Outside of work, I enjoy staying active with running and gym visits, very mediocre rounds of golf and activities with my family. I was pleased and proud to be asked to be a parent governor in October 2019. As I have never sat on a board of governors before, I hope I can approach the role with a fresh energy and represent the views of the parents to the best of my ability. Please come and say hello if you ever see me in the playground.

Mrs. Nina Phillips

Parent Governor

I have been a parent at Llangan school since 2013 and my daughter Alys is in Year 1, while Oliver is in Year 5.  They both very much enjoy their time at Llangan. I believe in the importance of education during these primary years of our children.  They are the building blocks on which their future depends and it is because of this I committed to being a parent governor. I am a qualified Optician and have run my own practice in Llantwit Major for the last 15 years, while outside of work, my free time is largely spent supporting my children's interests, of which there are many!  However I am a keen horse rider and I do manage to attend my local gym, although probably not as often as I should! I look forward to my role of supporting the school and am keen to help enhance the pupils experience at Llangan.
